Karen currently is our Human Resource Generalist and Executive Assistant for Carrico Pediatric Therapy Inc. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of La Verne, CA. Karen is responsible for running the daily functions of the H.R. department, including interviewing staff and onboarding new hires.

Karen enjoys visiting national parks and exploring foods from other cultures. She is also a coffee enthusiast.

Practicing dressing skills does not have to be boring! Try using different items to bring overhead (like putting on a shirt) or around their feet (like putting on pants). Beaded necklaces can become superhero capes, hula hoops turn into their utility belts, and elastic bands around their wrist and ankles could give them their special powers. Dressing can become a creative adventure!

Talk to your occupational therapist for more details or ideas to make dressing more fun at home!

• TIP TUESDAY! •

A simple way to strengthen your child's fine motor skills is to do activities on a vertical surface! Using a vertical surface helps your child strengthen their shoulders and core, extend their wrist to promote a better grasp, and improve their hand-eye and bilateral coordination. Here are some activities you can do on a vertical surface:

• Drawing or painting on the wall or an easel.
• Writing on a chalk or marker board.
• Pulling Squigz or other suction toys off the window.
• Using a dry erase marker on a mirror or window.
• Spreading shaving cream on a window or glass door and wiping it off.
• Using washable paint in the bathtub or shower.
• Reaching and playing with magnets on the refrigerator.
• Place stickers on the wall or try to take them off.

Here is an extra tip: The higher you place an item, the more work it is for your child to reach and grab it, which helps strengthen their shoulders even more!
